The MTM technology is based on inventions patented in the Russian Federation and was approved for use in 2001. Since then, it has been widely innovated in 44 countries worldwide.
The method's relevence is primarily determined by its contactless implementation for difficult-to-reach pipelines (underground or underwater) with any type of insulation coatings without the need to remove and clean the metal surface.
Our short course gives an overview of the basics, scope, possibilities, and limitations of technical diagnosis using
the Magnetic Tomography Method (MTM).
Preparation is not necessary for the object. Metal control volume - 100% (all along). MTM surveys that use a risk-based methodology have the advantage of considering actual mechanical stresses in real operating conditions.
It should be especially noted that MTM is applicable on pipelines not equipped with start-up and reception chambers (un-piggable), the length of which, even in industrialized countries, is up to 80% of the entire length of the pipeline network. The magnitude of the problem to be resolved is immense due to the fact that pipeline traffic is hundreds of thousands of times larger than any other form of transportation.
Magnetic diagnostics technologies are being prioritized by Russia, which enable them to not only survey the pipeline network but also digitize it, producing digital copies of objects.
